VP, Senior Quantitative Analyst, Model Risk Management

Shape the Future of Treasury and Balance Sheet Risk Management at State Street - State Street's Model Risk Management (MRM) team plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, reliability, and regulatory compliance of the quantitative models that support key business and risk management decisions across the firm.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantitative Analyst, Vice President to join our Model Validation team in Munich. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide independent challenge and oversight of high-impact models used for Asset Liability Management (ALM), Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB), stress testing, and liquidity risk.

You will be responsible for translating complex quantitative concepts into clear business insights, helping stakeholders and senior management understand model limitations, risks, and recommendations. In addition to conducting hands-on model validation work, you will lead and mentor a small team of junior quantitative analysts while helping strengthen the firm's model governance framework and risk management practices.

This is an opportunity to combine deep quantitative expertise, Treasury and balance sheet risk knowledge, stakeholder engagement, and people leadership within a highly visible control function that supports the firm's global risk

management framework.

What You Will Do

Lead Independent Model Reviews

  • Conduct and lead end-to-end model validation engagements for quantitative models used in Treasury and Risk Management.
  • Evaluate model methodologies, assumptions, limitations, and design choices.
  • Provide independent challenge to model developers and business stakeholders regarding model performance, limitations, and appropriateness.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Treasury and balance sheet risk models, including ALM, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and stress testing frameworks.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a small team of junior quantitative analysts while fostering a collaborative and high-performing validation environment.

Assess Model Performance and Robustness

  • Evaluate model implementation, data integrity, and computational accuracy.
  • Review model documentation, development evidence, and model implementation.
  • Perform independent testing, benchmarking, back-testing, sensitivity analysis, and stress testing to assess model reliability.
  • Identify model limitations, emerging risks, and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Assess model governance, controls, and ongoing performance monitoring practices.

Influence Risk Governance

  • Present validation findings, recommendations, and model risk assessments to senior management, governance committees, and business stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex quantitative concepts and technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with model owners, Treasury teams, and risk partners to resolve validation findings and strengthen model controls.
  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of State Street's model risk management framework and validation standards.

What We Are Looking For

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Finance, Financial Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Model Validation, Model Risk Management, Treasury Risk, Asset Liability Management, balance sheet risk management, or related quantitative risk functions within banking or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative modeling techniques, model governance frameworks, and model risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated experience validating, reviewing, developing, or overseeing models used in areas such as: Asset Liability Management, Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book, Liquidity Risk Management, Stress Testing, Treasury Risk, Balance Sheet Risk Management, Capital Planning

Technical Expertise

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, SAS, Stata, or similar analytical tools.
  • Experience conducting independent model testing, benchmarking, sensitivity analysis, and model performance assessments.
  • Ability to assess model implementation, data quality, assumptions, and controls.
  • Experience with ALM platforms such as QRM is plus but not required.

Leadership & Communication

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate sophisticated quantitative concepts, methodologies, and validation findings into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders and senior management.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple validation reviews simultaneously.
  • Proactive, intellectually curious mindset and willingness to challenge assumptions constructively.
